When I was 9 years old, I would often take a shower before school, and I would wonder if I could ever be anything in life. I mean, I thought I was devoid of talent. I couldn’t be a fireman. I couldn’t be a doctor. I couldn’t be a salesman. So, what, on earth could I be?
The reasons I was so devoid of self-confidence at such a young age are multiple. I would be looking for sympathy if I were to list them. I don’t look for sympathy.
However, what I do care about right now, is that I want America to be as great as it can be. And I believe that the only way America can be as great as it should be, is if we give our kids the education, skills, and encouragement that will make them great so we can all be great.
Tearing people down, and making them feel stupid and unworthy is not the way to make America great again. The only way to do that is to give those who have the gifts the gift of hope.
When I was a kid, I felt I was trapped in a room that had no doors or windows. Well, that was a bad feeling, to be sure. But we must make certain that the youngest and best talent rising up in the chain of American history is given its best chance to win. If we can do that, we will all win.
