Christine Blasey Ford told the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday she was “100% certain” Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted her, opening the pivotal hearing by outlining her memories of an incident that has become the center of the partisan fight over his confirmation.

Her voice halting at times, Dr. Ford said she had been “haunted by memories” since the attack at a house party in the summer of 1982, which she said had left her struggling academically and coping with panic and anxiety for decades after.
