New York Times Readers Are Canceling Subscriptions Over Climate-Denying Writer

THE HUFFINGTON POST The New York Times just hired Bret Stephens, a conservative writer who identifies as a “climate agnostic” ― infuriating many readers who say the paper is going against its mission to cover climate change. Now, scientists are rallying people against the Times and its new hire.  Climate scientist Michael E. Mann launched the hashtag #ShowYourCancellation this week after the paper’s public editor defended the decision to hire the former Wall Street Journal columnist, dismissing its so-called “left-leaning critics” who they claimed were leading a “fiery revolt.” Mann called for people to prove to the Times that they were actually ending...

Anita Hill Speaks Out In The Wake Of Bill O’Reilly’s Sexual Harassment Allegations

THE HUFFINGTON POST Anita Hill once inspired a national movement across the country for women to speak out against sexual harassment in the workplace. Now, in the wake of Bill O’Reilly’s harassment accusations and his subsequent departure from Fox News, Hill is calling for another change in the way U.S. society makes excuses for men in positions of power. “The problem with sexual harassment isn’t just because people behave badly,” said Hill, now a professor of social policy and women’s studies, in a USA Today interview published Wednesday. “The problem is our inability to develop productive responses to it, and...

CNN's Brian Stelter Slams Donald Trump For Being A 'Fox News Presidency'

CNN media correspondent Brian Stelter accused the White House of being the “Fox News presidency” on Saturday, despite President Donald Trump’s recent attempt to blame the network for unsubstantiated claims that Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower during the election. Appearing on “Newsroom with Fredericka Whitfield,” the media critic said there’s only one news source that Trump has committed his loyalty to and that’s the Rupert Murdoch-owned Fox News. Whitfield noted that while the network has tried to distance itself from the wiretapping claim made by its analyst, Judge Andrew Napolitano, she found the shift of blame interesting given Fox News and Trump’s “rather cozy relationship.” Stelter said, “What this ultimately comes down to is that President Trump is in some ways a Fox News presidency.” “He watches Fox a lot. He tweets about Fox. He gives most of his interviews to Fox. He hires former Fox staffers. He peddles information from Fox.” “So he’s in this feedback loop with one particular outlet and he’s especially getting information from the opinion programs on the network which clearly skew to the right ― they skew conservative.” Three of the last five news stories Trump has tweeted about in the past week were from Fox News. The others were from the New York Times ― a newspaper he insists is “fake news” ― and Brietbart, a pro-Trump site with white nationalist...

WATCH: Ivanka Trump’s New Perfume Ad On ‘SNL’ Describes Her Perfectly

As the daughter of the President of the United States, Ivanka Trump is an influential force in the White House. And “Saturday Night Live” is holding her accountable for her father’s actions. Scarlett Johansson plays the First Daughter in a glamorous “SNL” ad for a fragrance named after Ivanka’s influence on Donald Trump. “Complicit,” the commercial says. “For the woman who could stop all this ― but won’t.” The skit unfolds like a typical advertisement for a high-end perfume, except this dreamy, champagne-filled montage jabs at Ivanka’s self-proclaimed feminism and her ignorance over her father’s misogyny. “She’s a woman who knows what she wants. And knows what she’s doing,” a seductive voiceover says. Introducing the newest fragrance from Ivanka Trump. #SNL #Complicit pic.twitter.com/iOvia8csHk — Saturday Night Live (@nbcsnl) March 12, 2017 In the past, Ivanka has advocated for working women and paid family leave, but she appears to stay quiet as her father continues to back policies that hurt women’s rights. “A feminist, an advocate, a champion for women,” the commercial asks. “But, like, how?” “SNL” has mocked Ivanka in the past, but this is the first time the sketch show is casting a more critical spotlight on Ivanka. This time, they’re attacking her feminism without reservation. “She’s loyal. Devoted,” the voiceover says, “but probably should’ve bounced after that whole Access Hollywood bus thing.” “She doesn’t crave the spotlight, but we see her. Oh, how we...

WATCH: Fox News Anchor Stands Up For CNN And Defines ‘Fake News’

After the White House blocked several major media organizations from attending an off-camera press briefing known as a gaggle, journalists, both invited to the presser and not, stood up for the media. Among them was Fox News’ Shepard Smith. During a Friday news segment, the anchor explained the White House’s gaggle debacle and discussed Trump bashing media as “fake news” during the president’s Conservative Political Action Conference speech earlier that day. Then, Smith took the time to define “fake news” once and for all, before standing up for CNN. “Fake news refers to stories that are created often by entities pretending to be news organizations solely to drive clicks and views based on nothing of substance,” Smith explained. “CNN’s reporting was not fake news,” Smith said, after summarizing the news network’s coverage of Trump’s campaign’s ties to Russia. Smith took it one step further when he aligned CNN’s reporting with his own organization’s. “Its journalists follow the same standards to which other news organizations, including Fox News, adhere,” he said. Watch Smith take a stand against “fake news” and defend CNN in the Fox News segment...

Jake Tapper Nails White House Barring Of Media With 1 Perfect Word

The White House on Friday blocked several major media organizations, including The New York Times, CNN and The Huffington Post, from attending an off-camera press briefing, held in lieu of the daily televised news conference. And CNN anchor Jake Tapper did not take the unprecedented move lightly. Before his report on President Donald Trump’s speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Tapper took some time on CNN’s “The Lead” to break down why it’s such a problem that the White House barred certain media.  “Let’s not make any mistake about what’s happening here,” Tapper said.  “It’s not acceptable. In fact, it’s petulant,” he continued. He suggested the White House has difficulty telling the truth and referenced Trump calling the press the “enemy of the American people.” Tapper then used White House press secretary Sean Spicer’s own words against him, cutting to a 2016 quote from Spicer promising that the White House wouldn’t ban media from government access. “I think that’s what makes a democracy a democracy versus a dictatorship,” Spicer said in December. Then, Tapper boiled it all down to the Trump administration’s values. “The White House does not seem to respect the idea of accountability. This White House does not seem to value an independent press,” he said. “There is a word for that line of thinking,” Tapper concluded. “The word is un-American.” Watch Tapper’s message below. .@jaketapper: The...

Mike Pence Thanks Fake University During Debate, Twitter Goes Wild

Many expected Tuesday night’s vice presidential debates to be a pretty boring affair. So when Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) used his opening lines to thank “Norwood University” for their “wonderful hospitality,” debate watchers went wild on Twitter. That’s because Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia was hosting the debate, not Norwood U ― which doesn’t exist. But that didn’t stop it from trending on Twitter minutes after the GOP vice presidential candidate’s gaffe. #CNNRealityCheck: Mike Pence calls Longwood University “Norwood University.” FALSE. https://t.co/5GQw8Fvcvh https://t.co/xMhBLnPjH7 — CNN (@CNN) October 5, 2016 Norwood University, a fake university Mike Pence made up, is trending on Twitter: pic.twitter.com/7rryjCDuQc — Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) October 5, 2016 Fact-checkers and debate-watchers, including students of the real host university (which was, as a reminder to Pence, Longwood University), did not go easy on the governor for making the glaring mistake five minutes into the debate. Some people said the debate was immediately over after the mixup. Others suggested that Norwood was a rebranded version of Trump University. The mistake even inspired a new wave of students to “apply” to the imaginary college. I’m preeeeetttttyyy sure it’s Norwood University Seth. #VPDebate pic.twitter.com/17oOY0cxT6 — #WAM™ (@adammull) October 5, 2016 @KellyannePolls @timkaine This debate was over for Pence when he thanked Norwood University instead of Longwood University … — Ohnjaye (@Ohnjaye4) October 5, 2016 Happy to announce my commitment to Norwood University!!!...
