At least several people are presumed injured and there are unconfirmed reports that a suspected shooter is down after an active shooter situation in southwest Houston.

An HPD bomb squad is heading to the scene after a suspicious vehicle was found near the scene.

Houston police are asking people to avoid the area surrounding Weslayan at Bissonnet. A shelter-in-place was ordered for the West University area in response to the shooting.

At around 6:30 this morning, HFD scanners reported a suspect was at a strip center firing upon vehicles. The suspect was described as a black male with a revolver.

Emergency vehicles flooded the area around the Randalls supermarket strip center bordered by Weslayan, Bissonnet and Law Street.
Traffic was shut down on Weslayan after the shooting began in an attempt to protect drivers in the area.

Officers concentrated much of their focus on an apartment complex on nearby Law Street, located behind the strip center.

HFD officials reported on radio the suspect was seen behind some trees as he opened fire on vehicles in the area.

Our Eyewitness News crew saw firefighters and officers running up and down the street as the gunfire continued.

From the air, Don Armstrong reported seeing bodies on the ground.

Officers on the scene now seem less tense as we await confirmation that the suspected shooter is down, and our crew reports there have not been any addition gunshots for some time.
