Atlantic Magazine put it well, when exposing the hypocrisy of Republicans in Congress when it comes to the matter of the use of ‘executive actions’ by a president:
“There were few things that infuriated congressional Republicans more during Barack Obama’s eight years in the White House than the words “a pen and a phone.” They were shorthand for the president’s aggressive use of executive authority to go around a recalcitrant Congress and achieve his priorities unilaterally, whether on immigration, climate change, or how his administration implemented the Affordable Care Act.”
Yet as of today, President Trump has signed 17 such proclamations, and not a peep from congressional Republicans. In the words of the SNL Church Lady: “Well isn’t that convenient?!’
Trump had no desire to drain a swamp, he just wanted to make it bigger and put his lousy name all over it.
