I will admit, I was one of the people who thought Donald Trump had a zero chance of winning the U.S. Presidential election. It just seemed logical to me that any candidate for President of the United States who insulted and debased such large swaths of the voting population–Latinos, women, blacks, gays and just about anyone else who isn’t a white male–simply wouldn’t have enough supporters to win the election.
It’s not just that Trump, in his effort to become the 45th President of the United States, insulted so many people to eventually become their leader, but that he thought–apparently rightly so–that he could go against Lady Liberty’s wishes, which of course, we all know say this:
“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
I don’t about you, but something just doesn’t seem right here to me. We likely can’t change the results of the election, but we can make sure that Donald Trump does as little damage to our liberties as possible.
However, if Trump is to be prevented from destroying the promise of America, he must be stopped soon. Just ponder what he has done in just three weeks as President of the United States that has debased and disgraced our great nation. New York magazine has a great summary here.
